Boosting education in rural communities with Kipi, the robot teacher

During the COVID19 pandemic, education faced significant challenges due to the restriction of face-to-face interaction between teachers and students. It was in this context that we discovered the Kipi project, an educational robot created by Professor Walter Velasquez. This innovative project, which had been in development for some time, became more relevant during the pandemic, accelerating its implementation to become a crucial solution in rural areas.

At Kallpa Generación, we recognized the potential of this initiative and decided to support it by providing resources that would allow Walter to perfect Kipi. Thus, Kipi not only became a tool to make up for the absence of teachers during the health emergency, but also an educational complement capable of enriching learning in the long term.
One of the most outstanding achievements of this collaboration was the development of Kipi 2.0, an improved version of the robot that was distributed in the communities neighboring the operation of the Cerro del Águila Hydroelectric Power Plant. In addition, the project led to the development of the Kipi Libro and many other advances that reflect the talent and vocation of Walter Velásquez. All this was achieved thanks to a joint work between Walter and Kallpa Generación, consolidating this initiative as a reference in educational innovation.

Today, Kipi not only accompanies students in their educational process, but also represents an example of how strategic alliances between private enterprise and local initiatives can generate sustainable projects with social impact.
At Kallpa Generación, we remain committed to fostering these alliances that promote shared social management, supporting and motivating those who drive change from the communities themselves. Kipi is a clear example that together we can build innovative and sustainable solutions to transform education in Peru.
