With national records and recent international podiums, the marathon runner heads into one of the peak moments of her athletic career.
Peruvian long-distance runner Zaida Ramos, a Huancavelica jewel, will be one of Peru’s representatives at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, where she will compete in the marathon event on September 14.
Originally from the district of Salcabamba, in the province of Tayacaja, Ramos has built a career marked by perseverance and discipline, establishing herself as a key figure in Peruvian distance running. Each international competition has allowed her to raise the Peruvian flag high and strengthen her preparation for world-class challenges.
Her qualification for Tokyo comes after a streak of remarkable results. In May of this year, she set a national record at the Lima Half Marathon, clocking in at 1 hour, 10 minutes, and 5 seconds. In July, she placed 5th in the Bogotá Half Marathon, finishing as the top Latin American athlete in the competition. These victories add to a series of strong performances, including the 2023 Andes International Marathon, the 2024 Buenos Aires Half Marathon, and the World Championships in Budapest, where she completed the marathon in 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 23 seconds.
With her sights set on Tokyo, her trip is scheduled between September 8 and 9, during which she will join the official training camp to finalize her preparations. Ramos is highly motivated to beat her previous world championship time and achieve a new personal best.
“Running for Peru is always an honor and a great responsibility. Every kilometer represents the struggle, hope, and strength of my homeland. In Tokyo, I will give everything on the track, convinced that with discipline, effort, and faith, there are no limits. I am deeply grateful to Kallpa for their support. We are energy. We are unstoppable,” said the athlete, who is considered one of the strongest contenders on the national team.
Zaida Ramos’s participation not only reflects the determination of an elite runner but also symbolizes the hope of an entire country, which will be closely following her performance in Tokyo.
