Kallpa’s Sunny Solar Photovoltaic Plant Strengthens Its Contribution to the National Electricity System

The 341 MW non-conventional renewable energy plant operating in Arequipa celebrates one year since the start of its commercial operations. During this first year, it accounted for 26.4% of the country’s total solar power generation.

The Sunny Solar Photovoltaic Plant (Sunny PV Plant), operated by Kallpa Generación and located in La Joya, Arequipa, celebrated its first year since the start of its commercial operations on October 22, 2025. With an installed capacity of 341 MW, the plant contributes to the sustainability and efficiency of the National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN).

During its first year of operation, the Sunny PV Plant generated a total of 796.9 GWh of non-conventional renewable energy, accounting for 26.4% of the total solar energy generated during that period.

The Sunny PV Plant harnesses solar irradiation in Arequipa to generate clean energy through more than 540,000 photovoltaic modules that make up the solar park. The facility also includes the Sunny substation, which connects to the San José substation to deliver the energy produced to the SEIN.

This modern plant operates with the highest technological standards and features a system of 729 robots that clean the photovoltaic modules at night. This solution helps improve the plant’s productivity and electricity generation levels, while also eliminating the need for water. Sunny is the first solar photovoltaic plant in the country to feature this technology.

Sunny is part of Kallpa’s diversified portfolio, which has an installed capacity of 2.6 GW and comprises, in addition to the Sunny PV Plant, three hydropower plants, two efficient natural gas combined-cycle power plants, and a battery energy storage system.

The company currently has other non-conventional renewable energy projects in its pipeline in Arequipa and other parts of the country, leveraging Peru’s geographical advantages to generate renewable energy.

The consolidation of these important assets enables the company to continue generating reliable, efficient, and competitive electricity in line with the country’s needs and market signals, thereby reaffirming Kallpa’s leadership as Peru’s leading power generation company.
