In addition, the agreement includes batteries to store energy, optimizing resources and reducing costs for both the company and its customers.
Lima, August 2024. BSF Almacenes del Perú, operated by Holding Algeciras, has signed an agreement with KONDU, a company of the Kallpa Generación group, to install the first large-scale photovoltaic plant in a logistics condominium in Latin America. This project is a key step in BSF’s commitment to become the first carbon neutral logistics center in the region.
The agreement contemplates the installation of three solar plants that will generate approximately 1.5 megawatts of installed solar capacity. The project will operate under the Energy-as-a-Service modality, where KONDU will build and operate the solar plants with storage, selling the energy for self-consumption to BSF and managing the batteries to optimize the consumption profile.
In addition to the installation of more than 2,400 610Wp solar panels, the agreement includes the implementation of energy storage systems using batteries. These batteries will make it possible to accumulate the energy generated during the day for use at different times, including during the night, thus optimizing the use of energy resources and offering more competitive prices for both BSF and its customers.
As part of the solar plant installation project, a contract for the supply of power and energy from the grid is also included, which will include certification of renewable origin for 100% of consumption. In addition, a fast-charging infrastructure hub will be built for BSF vehicles and its customers to facilitate their migration to electromobility.
As part of this comprehensive project, a fast-charging infrastructure hub (40kW) for vehicles will also be developed for the benefit of both BSF and its customers, facilitating the migration to electromobility. Additionally, there is the possibility of expanding the capacity of the solar plant up to 10 MWp, depending on future Distributed Generation regulations in Peru, as BSF’s warehouses have sufficient surface area for this expansion.
“Kondu works with its clients to help them achieve their sustainability goals and objectives through the development of comprehensive, innovative and competitive energy solutions. We are very pleased to be able to develop with BSF this comprehensive project that will transform its logistics operations into the first in Peru to consume 100% renewable energy from both self-consumption and the grid,” said José Tierno, General Manager of Kondu.
This industry milestone project reinforces BSF’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The partnership with KONDU sets a new standard for logistics centers in the region, positioning BSF at the forefront of the transition to more environmentally responsible practices.
