For the fourth consecutive year, the company receives international recognition for distributing a total of 1,019.0 GWh between the Tintaya Processing Plant and Antapaccay.
Committed to sustainable mining with low emissions, Compañía Minera Antapaccay achieved 100% renewable electricity supply for its operations throughout 2024. The entire supply was provided by the Cerro del Águila Hydroelectric Power Plant, operated by Kallpa Generación, which uses water resources, one of the country’s main clean energy sources.
The supply contracted by Antapaccay was audited and certified by the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), a globally recognized organization that validates the renewable origin of electricity and ensures its traceability.
In this context, and for the fourth consecutive year, the mining company received this certification as part of its commitment to sustainable, low-emission operations. In total, the certified energy consumption reached 1,019.0 GWh, distributed between the Tintaya Processing Plant (168.4 GWh) and the Antapaccay Processing Plant (850.6 GWh).
“This achievement represents significant progress. On one hand, it reaffirms Antapaccay’s commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future, and on the other hand, it demonstrates the mining sector’s progress toward a responsible energy transition,” said Karim Batallanos, CEO of Antapaccay.
Antapaccay is a mining company located in Espinar, Cusco. Since the start of its commercial production in November 2012, it has maintained a prominent track record in copper extraction, establishing itself as one of the country’s main operations. With a 1.8-billion-dollar investment, its expansion project, Coroccohuayco, aims to extend the project’s lifespan until 2050, as well as increase annual production to nearly 300,000 tons of copper concentrate.
“We are committed to helping our clients meet their sustainability goals. This renewable energy certificate guarantees the high environmental standards of Antapaccay’s operations,” said Rosa María Flores-Araoz, CEO of Kallpa Generación.
Antapaccay reaffirms its commitment to sustainability in the mining sector, prioritizing the development of its surrounding environment and preserving the ecosystem.
