More than 1,800 farming families improve agricultural and livestock production thanks to agricultural project in Huancavelica

More than 1,800 rural families in the province of Tayacaja (Huancavelica) have significantly strengthened their productive capacities and boosted their household income thanks to their participation in the annual “Agricultural and Livestock Technical Assistance” program, promoted by the Cerro del Águila Hydroelectric Plant in its areas of direct influence.

With the support of specialized technical assistance, beneficiaries received practical guidance in corn cultivation, bio-garden management, fruit production, pruning techniques, and pest control, as well as veterinary care and training in animal health.

Among the most notable results is a 153% increase in corn production compared to the previous year, and a harvest of over 411,000 kilograms of avocado, of which more than 376,000 kilograms were sold, boosting the beneficiaries’ local economies.

In the livestock sector, more than 5,200 veterinary services were provided, along with training in the technical breeding of over 49,000 animals, thereby supporting household livelihoods.

“Our commitment is not only to the country’s energy development but also to the human and economic development of the communities within our areas of influence. We firmly believe in the value of coordinated work and the transformative power of training,” stated Luis Alburqueque, Social Management Manager at Kallpa.

These agricultural and livestock training programs represent a major boost for farming families, considering that, according to PRODUCE (2024), more than 60% of the economically active population in Huancavelica rely on agriculture and livestock as their main source of livelihood, with a 60.2% share in regional employment over the past year.

With initiatives like this, the Cerro del Águila Hydropower Plant reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of Huancavelica, promoting opportunities that positively impact the quality of life for rural families and strengthen the local economy.
