The leather products made by Chilcan entrepreneur Marlene Demarini will be present at PDAC 2025, one of the most important mining events in the world, which will take place next March in Canada, with the participation of Kallpa Generación.
Marlene, who turned her passion for leather sewing into a thriving business, is an example of the positive impact of local development projects. Her entrepreneurship initiative was driven by the “Mujeres Exitosas” (Successful Women) program, promoted by Kallpa Generación in Chilca, as part of its commitment to female empowerment and the local economy.
“I am very happy and excited that these artisan hands from the district of Chilca have made products that will reach Canada; as a Peruvian I am very proud,” said Marlene Demarini. As part of her business development, Marlene made 250 laptop cases, made of 100% leather, for Kallpa, which will be given to attendees of PDAC 2025. These products were made in her workshop located in the Asentamiento Humano 15 de enero. This production, in addition to boosting her sales, allowed her to generate employment for other people in the district.
As part of its social management policy, Kallpa contributed to the development of a new workshop for Marlene, significantly improving her working conditions. Previously, her production was carried out in an adapted space within her own home; now, thanks to this improvement, she has a larger, more organized and functional workplace, which will allow her to increase her production, generate employment and strengthen her business.
“The installation of the new workshop for “Cueros Demarini” is an example of the commitment we have with the growth of local entrepreneurs, providing them with tools to strengthen their business and boost their development,” said Luis Alburqueque, Kallpa’s Social Management Manager.
Kallpa reaffirms its commitment to the development of the district of Chilca, promoting local talent through training workshops and generating opportunities that contribute to improving the quality of life in its areas of influence.
