Five young people from Tayacaja receive full scholarship to study in Lima

The scholarship helps them pay for their entire college career, as well as housing, food and other expenses.

This initiative supports students from the rural communities of Andaymarca, Suilloc, Quintao and Jatuspata, in the province of Tayacaja, Huancavelica, who with great effort obtained the scholarship, through a knowledge contest, for careers such as Education, Psychology and Industrial Engineering. This great opportunity considers the integral economic coverage of costs such as stay in Lima, food, insurance, mobility and other expenses within their university education during the five years of career, as well as the continuous monitoring of their welfare and professional advancement.

“As a company we prioritize within our social responsibility policy important axes of development for our neighboring communities, one of them is the educational axis and, through projects like this, we contribute to ensure quality education for children and young people of Huancavelica,” said Luis Alburqueque, Social Responsibility Manager of the Hydroelectric Power Plant. On the other hand, the Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University has been providing courses to strengthen their knowledge in different subjects, and has also organized academic workshops and psychological counseling for students, with the aim of strengthening their integral development and thus successfully start the regular cycle that begins in March. “As a Jesuit, humanist university, one of our main objectives is to contribute to the promotion of social justice. This alliance is very important because it allows five young people from remote areas to have access to quality education, which reduces inequality gaps. The Kallpa Scholarship is fundamental for the students; at UARM they will not only be trained as good professionals, but also as people capable of building a life project. They will end up being role models and examples in their regions and localities of origin,” says Joseph Dager, academic vice rector of UARM.

The alliance between the private company and the university recognizes the purpose of continuing to train professionals who contribute to the sustainable growth and progress of the country, and especially of the regions where they come from, as in this case, the Huancavelica region. The Cerro del Aguila Hydroelectric Power Plant reaffirms its commitment to develop positive social impact initiatives through its Shared Social Management model, which involves the State, civil society, in this case, represented in the UARM, and private enterprise.
