Sowing the seeds of green gold in the Andes of the Huancavelica

This project directly benefits the communities of Suylloc Quintao, Suilloc, Andaymarca, Pichiu, Capcas, Llocce Huantaccero, and Jatuspata, which are located in the area of influence of the Cerro del Águila hydropower plant.

This is an opportunity for sustainable development. The communities neighboring the Cerro del Águila Hydropower Plant were mainly composed of small farmers engaged in subsistence agriculture. In the absence of technical support and state programs, Kallpa identified an opportunity to intervene and strengthen the avocado value chain. Eventually, this crop became a sustainable development alternative for the area.

Highlights. Today, the project shows tangible results. The lives of hundreds of farmers is being transformed thanks to:

Increased production areas: avocado production areas were expanded to 243 hectares thanks to the collective effort and participation of the beneficiaries.
Plant growing: During the five years of the project, 125,000 Hass and Fuerte avocado plants were planted in seven communities.

Training and technical assistance: A total of 530 producers have received training, advice and personalized technical assistance, enabling them to sell their products in local, national and even exportable markets.
Production and profitability: Of the 243 hectares under cultivation, 26.32 hectares have already reached the production stage. In 2023, these areas generated 79,586 kilos of avocado, with estimated revenues of S/ 209,879. This figure is expected to increase significantly in 2024, as new trees reach the necessary maturity.

“Sowing the seeds of green gold in the Andes of the Huancavelica” is a project represents our commitment to sustainable development, the improvement of the quality of life of beneficiary families and the strengthening of the economy of the Huancavelica region. Through this project, Kallpa reaffirms commitment to continue working hand in hand with the communities to ensure a positive and lasting impact.
