Kallpa’s Sunny Solar Photovoltaic Plant contributes sustainability and efficiency to the national electrical system

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Waldir Ayasta, visited the Sunny facility, which has a capacity of 309 MW and harnesses solar radiation to generate non-conventional renewable energy.

Kallpa Generación welcomed the Minister of Energy and Mines, Waldir Ayasta, to its Sunny Solar Photovoltaic Plant (SPP), a 309 MW facility located in La Joya, Arequipa.

During the visit, the delegation toured the solar park, the Sunny Substation, and the San José Substation, where they learned about the various systems involved in the operation. These included robotic equipment responsible for the autonomous cleaning of more than 500,000 photovoltaic modules, helping to increase energy generation efficiency. Kallpa executives and the technical team of the Sunny SPP guided the entire tour.

The Sunny Solar Photovoltaic Plant began commercial operations in its first phase in October 2025, while its expansion entered operation in April of this year, supplying renewable energy to the national interconnected power system.

The Minister noted that the Sunny SPP is a key facility that strengthens the country’s energy supply in an interconnected and sustainable manner through cutting-edge technology, highlighting its pioneering use of robots in its operations.

Rosa María Flores Araoz, CEO of Kallpa Generación, thanked the Minister and his team for their visit and reinforced the company’s commitment to continuing to generate energy that contributes to the country’s growth and development.

Sunny is part of Kallpa’s diversified portfolio, which has an installed capacity of 2.6 GW and includes, in addition to the Sunny SPP, three hydroelectric power plants and two efficient combined-cycle natural gas power plants.

The consolidation of these important projects enables the company to continue generating safe, efficient, and competitive energy, aligned with the country’s needs and market signals, reaffirming Kallpa’s leadership as Peru’s leading electricity generation company.
